What gunghap is
Gunghap means, roughly, the fit of two houses. For generations Korean families looked at the charts of a couple before a wedding, sometimes seriously and often as a ritual reassurance. Today most people check it the way friends compare star signs: for fun, for conversation, and for words to describe why some people feel easy and others feel electric.
The simplest form, 띠 궁합 tti gunghap, compares only the two year animals. It is what most people have heard of, and it is the least personal, since everyone born in the same Saju year shares an animal. Fuller gunghap compares whole charts, starting with the day masters and the day branches.
What we compare
Day masters first. Do your day stems combine (甲 with 己, 乙 with 庚, 丙 with 辛, 丁 with 壬, 戊 with 癸)? Does one feed the other, check the other, share its element, or clash with it?
Elements next. We count each chart's five elements and look at what each person has least of. If the other chart holds plenty of it, readers call that a complement: each of you brings something the other is short of.
Branches last. We check every branch in one chart against every branch in the other for six harmonies, three harmony trines, clashes, harms, punishments and 원진 wonjin, the resentment pairs that Korean gunghap pays particular attention to. The day branches weigh most, because the day branch is traditionally the seat of the partner.
How to read the result
We tally harmonies against tensions and name the overall tone: easy harmony, warm and steady, push and pull, or strong spark. Then we list every pattern we found, so you can see why. A clash or a wonjin is friction to understand, not a verdict. Many couples with a stormy gunghap are very happy, and a smooth one promises nothing.
Gunghap is for entertainment and reflection. It is a lens on two temperaments, and the relationship itself is made by the people in it.

Do we both need birth times?
No. Without times, the hour pillars are left out and everything else is compared.
Is gunghap only for couples?
No. It works for friends, family and colleagues. The day master relationship is interesting for any pair.
